Instagram Content Creation & Post Planner!
I hear Ya. Creating content for Instagram seems like a never-ending battle you just can’t win! Or can you?
As a photographer, I help some of my influencer friends create content for social media. Instagram mostly. It is always a constant battle to figure out the next winning viral post, caption copy, hashtags, and how to capture that hook that brings up your engagement. Growing organically seems like a feat when you don’t run ads to your account or at least have a plan set in place.
At the beginning of this year, I was a social media manager for a marketing agency. Needless to say, I hated it. It seriously turned me off from social media for a bit. However, I learned and taught myself so much about creating content and the Instagram platform. I had to create content for 14 brands and that was a lot for one person to take on. It was difficult to create unique content for each brand, especially because they didn’t have much, or any, assets for me to work with. Being a photographer having your own branded photography that is tailored for you or your brand is SO IMPORTANT!
If you are a personal brand you need photos and videos of yourself. If your photos, video, and content aren’t very good then it is a reflection of you and your brand. It says you don’t care about your presence and tells your audience they should care much either. And especially if you have an e-commerce brand, images SELL! It is more important for your ideal audience/customer to see the high-quality photos and videos of your product. If you are a personal brand then YOU are the product. Social media is a FREE tool that has transformed the marketing industry making it more user-friendly and accessible to anyone. More people who want to reach more eyes on their products or brand need to be taking advantage of it and other platforms like it. To leverage engagement you need to be creating these high-quality pieces of content and know why they worked and the numbers behind it all!
The first step, . . . Plan Your POSTS!
That’s right, planning your posts and batching your content may be the best thing you can do to make and see progress. Getting all of your thoughts out and onto paper makes it that much easier. When I was a social media manager, I had to create content for every brand a month in advance. A whole month’s worth of content at one time. It can be so overwhelming when you don’t have a plan set in place. But let me tell you… if you have a plan and schedule your post using Later or some other scheduling platform, it makes it that much easier! It can be done and you don’t have to pull your hair out!
So I made myself a plan of attack and streamlined the process. Not only did I cut my time in half but I didn’t stress over the content. I knew it was good because I took the time to think it all out prior to the creation process.
The second step, . . . Know Your NUMBERS!
In order to grow, you will want to track the numbers related to the content. In the marketing world, they are called KPI’s, key performance indicators. All of those numbers will tell you what worked, the reach, the engagement, the discovery, the shares, the relevant hashtags that performed, and so on. The numbers actually show progression and growth. Success leaves clues and the clues are in the numbers.
If you aren’t tracking your numbers how will you know you’re progressing. Tracking the follower count isn’t enough. Your engagement rates can be super high even with a small following and those numbers are the ones that brands want to know about. Micro-influencers can be just as influential as someone with say 25k followers. Showing brands these numbers are critical to getting paid more for collaboration. That’s why I decided to create 2 planners:

For most people getting started is the hardest part. Don’t get me wrong, I am guilty of it too. But when you have a reason, a purpose, and a strategy behind what you want to achieve, the easier it is to follow through with your plan.
As Benjamin Franklin said, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.”
